Plaza at Wildwood Summer Safety Tips

Category: Technology and Safety

Author: John Thurman, Plant Operations Director

As summer heats up, we at The Plaza at Wildwood Senior Living prioritize maintaining a safe and comfortable environment for our older adult residents. Rising temperatures present unique challenges, especially in our senior living community, where residents are more vulnerable to heat-related issues. Our maintenance team follows some essential safety measures to ensure a safe, smooth-running, and pleasant summer for everyone.

We inspect air conditioning units regularly to ensure they function correctly and replace air filters to maintain air quality. Thermostats are set at comfortable temperatures, and cooling is monitored in common areas and resident rooms.

Team’s Maintenance and Safety Measures

  • Provide shaded seating in outdoor areas
  • Inspect and repair walkways to prevent trips
  • Increase pest control to keep areas free from insects
  • Check ventilation in common areas and kitchens
  • Inspect electrical systems to prevent overloads
  • Clean roofs and gutters to avoid leaks and water damage

We educate residents on staying hydrated and avoiding peak heat hours by distributing flyers and holding meetings. We also promote indoor events during extreme heat to keep residents engaged and safe.

In our community, I check air conditioner units to ensure they are free of dust and contaminants and that the filters are clean. A summer safety tip for all Arrow communities is to have staff monitor outdoor areas during heat waves to prevent residents from being outside for extended periods and becoming overheated.

Taking summer safety seriously enhances our community’s appeal, making potential residents and their families more confident in our ability to care for their loved ones.

Following these tips ensures The Plaza at Wildwood Senior Living remains safe, comfortable, and enjoyable for all residents and staff throughout the summer months. Our dedication to maintaining a secure environment is essential to everyone’s well-being.
